How Much Does Rewiring Cost in Stockport? A Straight Answer
Real numbers, not a vague range. What drives the cost of a rewire in Stockport's mix of Victorian terraces and 1930s semis, and what you actually get for the money.
Stockport's housing stock is more varied than most people think. You've got proper Victorian terraces around Edgeley and Heaton Norris, 1930s semis further out towards Davenport and Cheadle Heath, and a growing amount of new-build around the town centre regeneration. The wiring situation in each is completely different, which is why quotes vary so much between houses that look similar from the street.
What pushes the price up or down
A 3-bed semi with straightforward access typically runs £3,000-£5,000 for a full rewire. That's the range we quote most often on Stockport jobs. What moves you towards the top or bottom of it: number of floors, whether you've got a loft conversion or extension that needs tying in, how easy it is to lift floorboards without wrecking finished floors, and how many sockets, light fittings and switches you're adding versus a like-for-like replacement.
Victorian terraces tend to cost more per room than 1930s semis, mainly because of solid floors downstairs and less loft access to run cable through. We'll chase walls where we have to and make good afterwards, but plastering and redecorating isn't included in the electrical quote, that's a separate job for a plasterer or you doing it yourself.
Full rewire vs partial
Not every job needs the whole house done. If you're extending or renovating a kitchen, a partial rewire covering just that area is common and cheaper. Same if an EICR flags issues confined to specific circuits rather than the whole installation. We'll tell you honestly if a partial rewire is enough — there's no benefit to us upselling a full rewire you don't need.
How long it actually takes
A standard 3-bed rewire takes 5-7 working days. You don't need to move out for most properties, though you should expect some rooms to be without power for parts of a day while we're working through the first fix. We work through methodically, room by room, and clean up daily rather than leaving mess for the whole job.
Every rewire we do in Stockport comes with full Part P certification and an EICR on completion, so you've got the paperwork for insurance, mortgage lenders or selling the property down the line.
